I need to get this!! My sub tones just are not vociferous!!

Kinda looks like it, but I don't think the Jupiter has a leadpipe tuning slide. I wonder where that extra length comes from.

They basically slapped a piston valveset onto the rotary tuba body. Piston valvesets are shorter than comparable rotary valvesets, and the leadpipe entry for a piston valveset is significantly closer to the mouthpiece than on a rotary valveset. Put these both together, and you have a lot of length to make up. You can go with a pigtail in the leadpipe as with the Schiller, or have a big loop right before the tuning slide, as done on the St Pete piston. A piston and a rotor valveset are two very different things, and the horn needs to be built around them. You can't just transplant one for the other without making major modifications, which both of the tubas mentioned seemed to gloss over.

Howdy, my name is Tyler Salyer. I'm a college tuba player looking to buy my first horn. While searching the internet I saw this horn and was enticed buy the price. Would someone be willing to give me a review of this instrument and tell me if it's worth the price?

Not sure why they just didn't 'toss' the valve set onto the Hirsbrunner body/copy/whatever they have. I'm getting back into playing, and love the portability the 192 clone offers but I'm looking at getting a CC. Hope they figure things out soon.

Geeze!.... there's just no end to the madness! China copying Jupiters (which are also made in China) and Jim Laabs advertising this conglomeration as a compensating tuba!

That's right Dan.............everything with more than 4 valves is compensating to them..........
and don't forget about the vociferous sub tones!

I did see the Jupiter being copied when in China earlier this year and did wonder about the wisdom of whoever initiated the model. Don't blame the Chinese - they don't understand the western brass market. They just make what western dealers request.

I am trying to only initiate new models which are not otherwise readily available - at least not at price most players can afford such as the tornister tuba and cimbasso. Our next new tuba initiation (just agreed in Shanghai today) will be something which is not made today by anyone else at any price - and something for which I frequently get requests. So I hope Wessex bringing back to life will be service to the tuba world
