Cost to change 5th valve slide length.

Post by bort »

I know repairmen hate questions like this. :)

I'm toying with the idea of having the 5th valve on my Miraphone 188 shortened from a minor 3rd to a flat whole step, and having a long slide I could use to set it a minor 3rd. Although I learned how to play CC tuba with a minor 3rd fifth valve, I still like the flat whole step setup in some situations. I'd like to have the option of both setups, if it's not prohibitively expensive.

Is this a difficult job? Is it an expensive job? One other thing that complicates things a little bit, my valve section is in all nickel silver. I'd like to keep it this way after the modification (all the tubing and both slides in nickel silver).

Or, does Miraphone make an optional minor 3rd slide for new 188's? Then I could just have the existing valve circuit modified and buy a new slide?

Any thoughts on this? Thanks! :tuba:

Not difficult. Not too expensive. I recommend it.

Can Miraphone provide you with alternative slides?

I know I was able to buy a 2-3 slide for my 1291 to replace my flat-step slide.

Lets say I want it to look stock, minus making the lacquer look pretty.
