Blackbird for Unacc. Tuba

Post by Jeremy K. »

Hey everyone!

I downloaded an arrangement off of the Tubenet a while ago of the Beatles' Blackbird for Unaccompanied Tuba. Towards the end it begins incorporating multiphonics. Anyways, five measures before the end, there are multiphonics in thirds going on first on Eb-G, then C-E, then F-A, then Bb-D. In the third measure from the end the multiphonics cut out (and the tuba part jumps up into the singing range) and then come back in in the last measure. For the life of me, I can't make sense of this, as it seems to me there should be multiphonics there where they cut out, in mm 58 - 59. Could someone tell me if this is true, and also what should be played in the lower part if there are supposed to be multiphonics there? I have looked up Blackbird in the complete Beatles scores, but there is no reference to this section of the arrangement in the original.

Thanks for any help anyone can give!!

Sorry I can't help you with your question, but would it be possible to get a copy? I would be very grateful if you could.

I play this tune as well (through the kindness of the person who set it for tuba -- Mr. Lars Holmgaard).

The passage to which you refer is not taken from any part of the Beatles tune; rather, it is a "quote" of the jazz standard Blackbird. There should not be any multiphonics at this point. You are correct -- it jumps back into the "singing range" as it is citing the tune of Blackbird. Rather clever.

Hope this helps.

Out of curiosity, where on Tubenet did you acquire your music part?
