Hi everybody, My leg is healing very slowly do to inflamed neve endings Very little playing...bummer....So while on E Bay the other day I found a Wenger tuba tamer..(I think) The guy said he received it with a box of drum equiptment...Knew nothing about it(being a drummer)He thought it was all there and he wanted 75.00 plus shipping I bought it!! I received it the other day took it out of the box and found out it was welded straight out to hold drums..EEEEIIIII<s>It would not bend or turn eeeiii!!I took it to my shop with great difficulty do to my leg..I ground the welds off and amazingly I think it works!! Yeeaaa! <s>But I don't really know which is the proper way to put it together...The stand has two long legs and two short..It looks like the shaft can be put in 4 different ways??
I went to the wenger site they show how to do a" new stand" with a top piston set up but nothing for a fat 6/4 Ganageyphone<s>I could sure use some help!!Two legs are short and wide the other two are longer which way does the holder set?? Which way do I sit??Beleive me I know nothing but sure want to play without pain from my leg (the neighbors are another matter haha) I'm sending picturesand pictures of correct way it's set up sure would be helpful ...Thank you so much in advance....BB

You'll notice a shallow 'groove' in one side of the inner tube. That 'groove' goes on the same side as the palm-screw.
The shorter legs go toward the front. The bulk of the stand is on the front side of the horn. In the case of a horn with front-action valves... the lower part 'keeper' of the stand needs to be adjusted so the horn sits so the valves are above the upper 'keeper' arms. You can see from the attached picture that my arm will basically rest on the stand in order to operated the rotors.
I think these stands probably lend themselves better for use with top-action horns like the big Conns.
As I recall... I had to do a little 'surgery' in order for the stand to go low enough to hold the King 'pit'.

Short answer - it looks like you have the legs backwards. The rest looks functional.
The long legs should be under the Tuba.

The 'palm screw' I referred to is the large knob on the outer tube of the base. On all of the Wenger stands I've seen... there is sort of a groove in one of the sides of the inner tuba for the purpose of making the height adjustment 'stay put' without having to use too much force on the knob.
In your last picture... the stand is pictured with a top-action horn. I think this type of horn is actually what the Wenger was designed to be used with.
No... my King 'pit' tuba is not in the stand backwards. This is the only way I've found for utilizing the Wenger with a front-action horn. With the horn turned around the other way... you have to sit too darned far away and can reach around to the valves.

Yup. Like I mentioned.... The Wenger stand is a little awkward with front-action horns.

Yikes!
That looks almost physically impossible to play when in the stand as pictured above. Is that really the playing position or were you still working on getting it adjusted just right?

Hi Tom here are a couple of pics that shows how I play it with my replaced knee ..at no point does it rest on me I see my music and turn it down a little to drain it...It's not uncomfortable almost like I hold it on my lap...The best thing is I can play without pain from my knee another good feature is It won't get dented from me picking it up and putting it down on it;s bell...thanks for asking.......BB IMGP0193 bob with wenger and frankenhorn.jpg

That's cool, Bob. Glad to hear it's working out great for you as you intended.
The pictures of you with the tuba really helped me understand how the whole setup works "in the real world" with a front action tuba like that.
