Recently, I ordered the RVW concerto. What was sent to me was not the 'normal' Oxford edition, but instead another Oxford one, edited by David Matthews. It claims to be edited to better suit the original, "Composer Intended", edition, with a reinstated higher cadenza, and preface that talks about the slurring in the second movement, and several dynamic and ornamental markings in different editions. With a copyright of 2012, has anyone had experience with this? Does it solve the problems talked about in previous threads? Is this the new "go-to" copy of the concerto?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sydney University had a microfilm copy of the autograph score. I remember picking through it years ago when i had the opportunity to play the third movement with an orchestra. It's very definitely not written by the same person as the rental score- the manuscript in Vaughan-Williams' writing looks a lot like the scratchings of an epileptic chicken, whereas the rental score is fairly legible. I remember looking at the rental score when it arrived with the parts soon after and being surprised how different it was from the autograph manuscript and the printed oup edition. I also remember being surprised how many articulation markings were (presumably) editorial in the rental and printed edition - the autograph score didn't have very many at all.
