On my way home from my job Sunday night-Monday morning, one of the non-comm community radio stations, KBCS, has a classical music show called, "Classical Mechanics."
Around 2:45am, I tuned into Symphony No. 3, "Palo Duro Canyon," composed by Samuel Jones. This was my first time hearing it. Even with the road noise, there was no mistake that the featured tuba soloist was ripping it up. The music is very difficult-- technically, harmonically, you name it. It was a wonderful surprise to hear such gusto that late at night.

At the end of the piece, the host opened the mic and announced the name of the piece, the orchestra-- Seattle Symphony, and the soloist- Chris Olka.

Chris, I don't know how many hours you put in to prepare for this recording a few years ago, but, thank you so much for all your blood, sweat and spit that went into it. You truly inspired me, and likely countless others.

KBCS has an audio archive for this show for two weeks, here's a link to the page to stream the program from 7/1/13:
