What should I do this summer with tuba?

Depending on finances, maybe look into Drum Corps.

I've heard good things about the Brevard music camp.

FWIW, there is a audition coming to Univ. of Maryland in college park on the 12th of Feb.


There are other things you could try like the Disney All American College Band.

American Wind Symphony.

Other stuff...

Or, You could just hook up with a few community bands that play around the 4th of July and just do rehearsals and gigs to keep yourself sharp.

thars drum corps. summer is drum corps season, theres a corps outta south jersey, jersey surf, might wanna check them out, drum corps are always lookin fer xtra tuba players

I'd think that drum corps would work, too, but this was a pretty darn good idea.

Sightreading on a gig is a lot of fun, and getting the chance to make connections with local players is always helpful.

Most of all, it's casual & fun, and that's what music is about, isn't it?

You should check out the Atlantic Brass Seminar. It is an intense two week chamber music camp held at the Beautiful Boston College Campus in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. This past year, the repertoire included arnold, etler, bozza, jan bach, Dahl, Ewald, Ewazen, pretty much the most challenging literature written for brass. The tuba teachers are John Manning and Jobey Wilson,, both phenomenal players and teachers. You should definitely check it out:

The ABQ session looks really interesting, and I can vouch for the Disney Band being a good way to spend a summer. You may have to travel a bit to get to an audition, but it's a solid couple of months. Also, if Brevard is holding auditions in College Park, have Toby get you ready for them. Don't let that opportunity slip by.

Ity's not really blowing them off, Lots of loud playing sure, but plenty of soft stuff, to make the loud part seam louder:) And it'll do a lot for endurance
With the switch to 3/4 valve Bb horns, you don't have the "issue" a G bugle might cause.
