Hey guys,
Does anyone know of some good music, that would work for violin and tuba (and piano, possibly)?
The Brahms horn trio comes to mind.
Didn't PDQ Bach write something for violin and tuba?
Do you suppose arrangements of Baroque duets for wind instrument (like flute and bassoon) would be out of line?
Any other thoughts would be welcome!

I've done the PDQ Bach thing before. It's a lot of fun as long as you really ham it up, or the audience might not get it.

Bach 2-part inventions. Read them right out of the piano book.

Beethoven wrote a series of 3 duets for clarinet & bassoon, which I have arranged for several permutations of instrument pairs. Apparently my edition is popular, as it has been pilfered and uploaded at the site of a private musical institute in the US. Without asking me for a permission. Also got a request for additional versions for pairs of saxophones a couple of weeks ago.

The original version of the first duet in C major formally is playable for violin and bass tuba, only the tuba would have to play in its extreme high range most of the time. That version would fit much better for violin and euphonium.

The above sample pages are from the version for violin and tuba in the transposed key of G major (just uploaded to my Yahoo based project), which is much more friendly on the tuba player and still with the original sequence of notes staying within the range of the violin. F major also could have been played by the violin, but would have called for the open G string, which potentially might cause intonation problems. The cued multiple stops in the last bar are by me. They are written in cue notes and may of course be omitted.

The Brahms horn trio works marvelously well on F tuba played down an octave, but is professional level for all players.

The third of the Beethoven duets now has been uploaded in an F major version for violin and bass tuba. The same folder also has a version for English horn and bassoon, where the bassoon part is identical to the bass line in the version for tuba and violin. There also is a compatible version allowing for the constellation of clarinet and bass tuba:

There have been several posts on the board about Jan Koestier's Unterkagner... It is written for violin and cello (or tuba)
