I can't tell you anything about the horn itself, but I seriously doubt that it will get shipped
from Kansas to Australia for $76.83

I was confused about the shipping price as well. But i contacted the seller and he confirmed it.

"Q: Ebay said it would cost $75 to ship to Australia is that right ?
A: Yes...EBAY has a new international shipping facility which lowers the cost."

Well Johnny, that sounds like some kind of deal then!
As far as the horn goes, I haven't been a member very long here, but I don't
recall any threads on older Russian made tubas (other than St. Petersburg that is).
I hope you know a good instrument repair guy...........more than likely it will need
some TLC to get it into good playing shape, but cosmetically it looks pretty good so
I'd have to say you got a really good deal  Now lets hope that it plays good too!
:tuba:

The shape of that tuba looks just like the modern St. Petersburg tubas, except it's only got 3 valves and the engraving is in Russian. Actually, that's a match to the description of Vince's old St. Pete from his collection.
It's got the wear spots that Nickel plated St. Petes get. Chrome is much more durable, but is not commonly used on brass instruments. Silver will turn black with tarnish. He would have needed to polish it for pictures if it was silver. Nickel is the only other common plating material for brass instruments - and it's really common on St. Petersburg tubas. Based on that, I doubt that it's Chrome or Silver since the seller also didn't know and I have to go with Nickel.

Compare it to this: http://simonettitubacollection.com/inst ... -3-rotary/
You may be able to e-mail Vince Simonetti for more information on his old St. Pete for comparison. His contact info is on the left side of the page.

This is a red flag to me because Ebay is NOT in the shipping business. I hope I'm wrong, but I also hope you paid with a method that allows dispute resolution (Paypal, or any credit card).

Yeah... What seems even stranger is that the shipping cost on other items currently for sale and in the history are quoted as "shipment to Australia is $....".

I've seen things for sale by 'terribleswede' before but don't recall seeing any complaints. Post back and let us know when you receive the horn.

This new service is contracted out to Pitney-Bowes, a company that is in the shipping business. I've used it successfully, though I too was skeptical at first.

Yep, I think that's it! An early (pre WW II) St. Pete. Looks like an exact match to the one in Vince's collection.
What a find............and they damn near gave it away.

Here I am in 2022, after searching info on St. Petersburg tubas, wondering if Johnny ever received his 11 years ago. :-) It's a cliffhanger!

For a shipping fee of $76.83 halfway around the planet, I am sure it is still in transit.
