I think you're right on the 378 model. Sorry I can't help with the SN confusion as I don't own a Hirsbrunner. I think the bell diameter is probably 305... or should be... as it's marketed that way. The bore of the tubing sounds right. 15mm = .590; 16mm = .630 and are the specs advertised. That is unless they choose to use OD (Outside Dia) (Willson did that for awhile). HB has always been famous for some of the best silver plating. I've heard though the their lead-pipes can be subject to red-rot prematurely though.
Sorry to hear about the owner not doing well. I found this TubeNet post that may help with info:

I believe that the horn might be from 1982 as my Yorkbrunner was made in 1994 and the serial number starts with 094. It's probably pretty accurate since I bought the horn in 1995.
Just my experience.

Hirsbrunner: line-up of tuba and euphonium models from a 1990 leaflet:

The above link will work immediately for members of my Yahoo-based brass gallery. Newcomers may join via the index-link in my signature.
The above leaflet was scanned in a very high resolution accessible through the *Original* text button. You may want to open the scan in a separate window as the Original page crops the right 2/3 of the scan.

I am sorry I can't help with the year, but I think you can get at least $4,000 for the horn, especially since these are no longer around. Aside from the Adams, i find these horns to be some of the best around. Sad to hear the circumstances of the sale, I hope they get to enjoy it a bit more.

Was this horn in Mississippi? I just purchased a Hirsbrunner euphonium in Mississippi and the owner had lost her battle with cancer.
On a different note... My son has been enjoying the Hirsbrunner we purchased. The original owner supposedly purchased the horn 25 some odd years ago. Which would've made it new in the mid to late 80's.
This has to be the same instrument. The case is the same as you described and the story on the owner is the same. The instrument is in the right time frame. This euphonium makes the most beautiful sound!
I stumbled on this thread looking for some model info, because it isn't marked as to what model it is. BTW it is a gorgeous horn.

I have been looking for the right horn, all school year, for my son. I thought this euphonium was a good deal at $4000. We drove all the way from Savannah, GA to play test the Hirsbrunner, before buying it. It has an amazing sound compared to the Bach he had been playing. This will last him through high school, possibly college and what ever he wants to play in later down the road. I would love to see him use it at least the next 25 years, as Jeanie did.
RIP Laurie "Jeanie" Ross
My son has shown the passion and responsibility to own such a horn. I hope she is looking down and smiling every time he plays the horn.
On a side note we did make it out of town before the tornados hit! We're thinking about all those that have been affected by those storms.
Also thank you Elephant for cleaning it up so nicely. He has polished it again since bringing it home. He's also played it every day since bringing it home...lol His music instructor plays the same exact horn, with the same exact mouth piece. But the case that came with this horn is nicer than the music instructors. She payed more for hers, maybe 10/12 years ago and she was the third owner of hers.

I would also like to say, this is a wonderful forum. With a wealth of knowledge. I wouldn't have been able to make a decision on what to buy without this knowledge and how much to pay without it as well. I'm glad to be here!
Thanks again Elephant.
