I have just noticed that the Denis Wick people have re-introduced their original shaped tuba mouthpieces. They are called the "Classic" version and are offered in addition to their newer styled "Heritage" series. Seems that not all DW fans took to the peculiar (IMO) Heritage style. Apparently there is no difference in spec between the two, just the external appearance. Anyone tried out the "new" Classic model?

When i received my besson 981 back in october of 1994 it came with a gold plated denis wick 3l mouthpiece.It is the classic to which you you refer. Many mouthpieces have come and gone, but the 3l still remains my number one choice.In my opinion these are great mouthpieces. May not be everybody's cup of tea, but it works for me.

I have used the DW2 since it's introduction c 1971/72 - changed to the DW2L around 1978. Tried all sorts of mouthpieces - ok for a few weeks - but I always return back to the DW2L. Great EEb tuba mouthpiece IMO.

We had a thread about this not so long ago. For a while there, they were pushing out boxes marked "Classic" but containing a mouthpiece the same shape as the Heritage, except it was silver all over, instead of gold or part gold.
It's possible that a few of these may still be out there, lurking on shelves, so if you specially want the classic shape, check before you buy.

I've always liked the classic - they work very well for me across a broad range of instruments. Very flexible/nice sounding/great range. Not my main mouthpiece currently for any of my horns - but always a good second/fall back choice.
