Semi-rigid mouthpiece rims

Post by chronolith »

I was wondering if anyone has done any research into non-rigid or semi-rigid rims for mouthpieces.

Not even sure if it is a good idea, or if someone messed around with this and found it to be a horrible failure. Mostly just curious. There are times when I wish my mouthpiece would essentially meet me in the middle, knowing that my embouchure is not naturally mouthpiece rim shaped. I have looked at the Wedge designs also. While the shape does address a specific issue, I also know that my embouchure, if only in a small way, does change shape as I move up and down in the range.

I can also see a situation where a non-rigid rim might lend itself to making bad habits worse if the player is not fundamentally sound.

The bottoms of my feet are not flat, and neither are the insides of my shoes. I am curious of anyone knows if similar logic has ever been applied to mouthpiece rims.
