Where are all of the original CC Yorks? Who owns them? How many are there? Pictures?!

I know somebody who has one. He has it in a shop somewhere being overhauled. He said he bought it from a lady in his neighborhood whose husband used to play many years ago and who had passed away some years back. She didn't know what she had...

He told me that it was similar to the York CC that Jim Self owns.

I have one in my shop currently having its valves rebuilt, a new mouth-pipe made and installed, as well as a new set of caps, stems and reproduction oversize buttons being machined to replace the trashed originals. The owner lives in Texas and has another in his possession.

We know where the two original York 6/4 CC's are, in Cook County, Illinois. There have been a few 6/4 York Bb's cut to CC.

During the time I did restorative work to Jim Self's 1938 York 5/4 CC, and also bought and restored a 1935 York 5/4 CC, I tried to do a little research and see how many of these York model 792 tubas, roughly the size of an old King 2341, were made. The evidence seemed to point to somewhere between 12 and 20 of them being manufactured, with the possibility of several more being made later by cutting a BBb model 700 or 712. If that production number seems small, consider that there were only 178 Getzen CC's built.

I have seen no evidence of any of the 4/4 York having been ever offered from the factory as a CC, but there have been a few model 33 BBb's cut to CC. The Kanstul model 90 CC is based on the York 33, and the Getzen CC tuba was based on on one of these BBb cut to CC tubas.

So, the York CC's tubas that exist in 3 different sizes probably number well under 200 total, with somewhere in the vicinity of 20 of them being factory BBb-to-CC cuts, and the remaining CC Yorks being cut from BBb to CC after the fact.
