I am a senior at the University of Northern Iowa and I have a radio show on the college station...94.5 KULT for those interested! Basically, for my show I have been playing cool music that has tuba on it. I have played some jazz, some electronic, some street band and other stuff so far. The main goal of my show is to broadcast the coolest music in the world..it just so happens that it all has tuba in it!

The reason I am making this post is so that I can get some more ideas of what to play. I really like discovering new music with tuba in it and I would love to have more tunes to play on my show.

Some examples of music I have played: Red Callender, Howard Johnson and Gravity, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Wolff and Tuba, Modern Jazz Tuba Project, Henry Threadgill, Boom Pam and more but I think you get the idea.

I would love to get some suggestions!

Sincerly,

DJLowFrequency

Try anything Marcus Rojas has been involved with for the sometimes stranger side of tuba driven jazz.
Have you found Banda and Balkan Brass yet? Lots of tuba in both of those areas.

Most of the bands listed here http://honkfest.org/bands/ use tuba(s) and are doing interesting and/or original stuff. There is another good list of band links at the Yahoo Group "Streetband" in their link section. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/StreetBand/links - I think you have to join the group to see that page.

I will look over my old KFJC play lists to make more suggestions, or you can google them with my name and KFJC. Look for the ones around the first Friday in May when I usually did a tuba special.

Joe Exley has a new band, he posted about it here on the board a little while ago. I can't remember the name of the group, but he's a great player and it's good new stuff. Give it a look!
