The first of a series of columns that will deal with topics in the tuba/euph world, with humor and affection for our instruments is now available at http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/tuba ... e-question.

These columns will be personal reflections about the low brass world intended for an audience not necessarily tuba-literate. The author, a free-lance writer, novelist, and my daughter (Elizabeth Eshelman Moes), often boasts that she got an A+ for a term of tuba lessons while an undergraduate majoring in English, while her older brother with his three tuba performance degrees never attained this grade. And yes, she does mention me and the quirky tuba-centric household in which she was raised.

McSweeney's is a prestigious online journal of "fiction, essays, and experiments that couldn’t find a publisher elsewhere".

Fun to read, smartly & precisely written, good intro to the world of the tuba and tubist -- bravo to your daughter for starting the column! May she write many more.

(And as a euph player, I look forward to how she treats the instrument. I'm hoping for none of the usual tubist's condescension).

Sorry to bring back a post from the dead... but a bump for a good cause.

My son forwarded me one of Elizatheth's articles from McSweeney's today. I have now spent a good part of my morning reading her postings...

They are worth the time!
