A Gaggle of King Jumbos

Here is a pic from Purdue's Homecoming Alumni Band day on September 28th. PurdueTubaPlayer and I have our King Jumbo 1265s with Purdue's King Jumbo 1266 "Big Bertha." I don't know if three of these beasts have ever been photographed together before. They don't look that big by themselves...but with other horns around....these three are massive. We got a lot of attention form other brass players asking about the big horns.
Dan Schultz contributed the second photo showing the massed alumni and undergrad bands...700+ members with 40+ sousaphones. The alumni get to march a great collection of _old_ King sousaphones that despite their road-worn looks....still are amazing horns. The undergrads use game-day Jupiter horns that are in their second year (wow are they thin metal), and they use their 15yo Conn 20Ks for practice (those horns are much better, but didn't hold up very well in the dent-free department). .....that's a lot of heavy metal!
