as mentioned above this piece is from Borodin's Prince Igor. An interesting note is that this piece is orchestrated with choir and the night before it was to premiere Borodin had not yet finished orchestrating the piece, so he gathered up some of his friends and students, such as Rimsky-Korsakov to help him. Because Borodin was the leading teacher in the Mighty Handful his friends and of course his students knew his style very well so he gave each person a section and let them finish. One of his students, Katcheturian, later reorchestrated some of these Asian folk songs in his piece Armenian Dances. I played Polevetsian Dances last semester and had a great deal of fun. It's one of those parts where you only play 2 or 3 different pitches but it lets you play as loud as you can, great fun.

There is a transcription for concert band that the community band I'm in is gradually working up for future performance. Not sure of the publisher but my tuba part says "Chapppell's Army Journal No. 428 - Ballet Music from the Opera Prince Igor". There are four sections (four dances?) and it is a fun piece. Mainly a workout for the high reeds with relatively easy low brass parts.
