Tuba gig bag, case, box etc..

Post by ds_le_moulin »

Hi !
I've searched a lot round on the net and not he forum, but didn't find anything suitable...
I've got a new Bb tuba. This is a German kaiser tuba kind of.(106cm, and the bell is 48cm)
Does anyone has good advice about a good case, with suitable size wheels ?
I have a soundwear bag, that works really well (for my CC) but it's too small for this new Bb, and the soundwear company stopped to produce these bags.

I am searching for some aluminium case that I could put the soft gig bag in, for storage and trip over by train and bus (I am not sure, it will ever need to put it in a plane pit...) Or some good gig bag like the soundwear... (Is semi-hard the suitable term ??? )

Any advice welcome !

Thanks !

Well, as I wrote, I have a soundwear bad. I am superhappy with it. But they do not do these bags anymore for tuba. (Too many different models and too many wishes = too expensive to produce)
Since my new tuba will not fit in that soudwear bag I have. I need to buy an other one. And I am ready to read any ideas...

Hard cases that size are a custom job. The dimensions you list are similar to an Alex 164.
My dad's horn (East German clone of Alex 163, similar dimensions to the 164) has an Anvil case that he had custom made for flight/train travel when the army moved him from Virginia to West Germany. That thing is still going strong.

There are a number of folks who make these, and they all use a template based on your exact instrument model.
Here's one to get you started: http://www.cases2go.com/productview.asp ... _cid_E_972

Good luck. Remember that they'll need your exact model # and may need some additional information from you to get the case right.
If your horn is a clone, search for cases that fit the original.
You should be able to find something, even if it is a custom build that will take 4-6 weeks to complete.

Just listing a couple dimensions is not enough.
@ds_le_moulin: Curmudgeon is trying to help you. If you don't post exactly what make/model of tuba you have, you're not going to get much response on this forum. There are too many other dimensions that make a difference for anyone to know for certain which instrument you're talking about.

It's a Hirsbrunner 193. BB Kaiser tuba looking. Bell 48 cm. Exact hight, I do not know yet although it's written 1120mm on the web page.

Here's the only 1 I've found that might fit a tuba that tall (with a little help from Google) See the 2089K model: http://www.jakobwinter.de/en/wind-instr ... W_2088.php http://www.jakobwinter.de/media/produkt ... 8_2089.png
Your tuba might(?) also fit in the Anvil case I mentioned before. It's really tight though. I'm not sure if there's enough padding left on the bell end of the case with the extra height from 1060mm to 1120mm.

You might want to contact Hirsbrunner to see if they recommend anyone who makes cases for their 193 Kaiser model. Otherwise, you're probably going to be having one custom built from scratch, based on your dimensions.

Hei !
Thanks for your reply.
I knew the Winter cases. It's that product that Hirsbrunner proposes. I am not completely convicted in that kind of product.
What about some semi-rigid gig bag ?
