Bach Megatone mouthpieces

After many years of trial & error, I have settled on a VB 24AW mouthpiece as the most suitable for my Besson EEb comp tuba. I won't bother with explanations as to why, that's been done to death on this forum before. I ain't changing from it. I am interested however in The VB Megatone series. Has anybody tried them? Do they live up to the hype of darker, louder sound? How much wider is the throat compared to a standard VB of the same cup diameter? Do they require much more air? These things are not cheap, so any experience with them would be gratefully received. Advice on other mouthpieces I might prefer, although well intended, aren't relevant at this point in time, thanks all the same.

Have no experience with these, but the Bach mouthpiece manual says that the Megatones play darker and can play louder without breaking up, which is about what one would expect with the extra mass. The manual says the 24AW has a throat of 8.84mm and the Megatone's throat is slightly larger at 9.00mm.

If i were to order one to try, I'd see if i could get it on trial from Dillon Music or another store that has a trial policy . . .

I haven't tried the 24AW MegaTone, but the 7 works as advertised, and it too has a larger bore than the standard 7.
