With all the chatter lately about the difficulties that major symphonies are having (financing, programming, relevancy, etc.), I would like to note that my wife and I just came back from a Houston Grand Opera performance of Aida and it was spectacular! The set, light & sound, the costuming, the choreography and most of all the music were just tremendous. Really a great show! Not only that, I didn’t see an empty seat in the house (and yes, there were quite a few under 30’s there, apparently paying customers).
I cannot speak for other opera companies, but certainly Houston is alive and putting on some amazing performances. For those of you who are losing your faith in live music, go see a good opera performance, it really is uplifting!
Best regards,
Rex
