MW Leadpipe Specs?

Post by tubawallace »

I need some help here gang,

Meinl Weston is no longer Meinl Weston, and the Buffet folks are moving rather slowly thus far, so I'm working on some alternatives for a leadpipe change on my 2165.

Does anyone know what the bore size is at the receiver end of the 45slp and the 2145 leadpipes?

For the record, Meinl Weston is part of B&S which is part of Buffet. Nothing has changed there. Have you tried to contact anyone at Buffet, or is some repairman telling you parts are not available?

Availability of repair parts for MW tubas through Buffet's Florida office is a serious problem. We've been waiting for parts since the spring. That includes the parts being ordered through a repair technician, and then me directly contacting the parts department at Buffet. Fortunately, they are not urgently needed, as these parts are for an upgrade that is no longer necessary, as there is now another tuba in the house. The parts situation was one of the reasons we did not choose a MW horn when the new tuba was bought.

I have heard second-hand reports that one way to actually obtain MW parts is to bypass the Buffet ordering system, and contacting Gerhard Meinl through personal channels. I can not verify whether this is a good or bad idea.

Just looking for some specs at this point. I thought that surely someone has some measurements of the leadpipe's bore at the receiver.

Good morning,

My name is Francois Kloc, I am the Vice President of Buffet Group USA, distributor of the Meinl Weston Tubas in North America. I was alerted that some of you had issues getting parts from us. First I would like to apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you and invite you to contact me directly in the future if the problem continues. We have been working the past year in integrating the B&S brands and while I would love to have a magic wand unfortunately these type of things take some time. This being said, there is absolutely NO excuses for not providing our customers with what they need and in this case it is what happened.

My e-mail address is francois.kloc@buffet-group.com. Please contact me if you have issues so I can work on solving them and make sure that the process going forward is as seamless as possible.

I have also read that if you contact Mr. Gerhard Meinl directly you would get the parts. Please understand that this would not help the situation as it would create more confusion at the factory than needed. Mr Meinl and I correspond often and I know that he will not "by pass" us.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support,

Best Regards,

Francois KLOC
