I purchased the Style Studies Book/CD which arrived a few days ago. The level of difficulty is appropriate for intermediate to high-school students. (I'm trying it with a college freshman who has never had lessons before this year.) The range is not too demanding. If the Blazhevich book is a Grade 5, this would be about a Grade 2 or 3. The challenge lies in playing this music exactly as marked.
The music is well-marked, including a wealth of articulations and contrasts. Nearly every note or passage has some kind of indication telling the performer how to play the music. A good tool to get young players away from making that "one special tuba sound" on everything they play.
The CD features flawless playing with great attention to style--articulation, dynamics and mood.
My student and I listened to a bit of each track, and there were several that made my student say "that's cool" or "I like this one."
Another good product to include in your teacher's bag of tricks.
