Hi, after testing some German and Czech smaller BBb tubas I have nearly decided to buy the MW 2011 RA HoJo but I was not able to compare it with the Josef Lidl 701 on the same place. Is there anybody that has played both tubas and can make a few comments about the comparison? Thank you!

M-W makes the HOJO in RA:

http://baltimorebrass.net/pic.php?id=1117 or TA.
The OP asked about the RA version.

I've played both of these models, but it's been a while, and I didn't play them side-by-side, so take this for what it's worth.
I liked them both, on the whole. The HoJo definitely seemed to be of higher quality construction (hence the higher price). It had a really nice, solid feel to hold and play, and I liked its compactness. The Lidl was also easy to hold and was lighter in weight, due to thinner metal, I think.
They both seemed to have decent intonation. As far as sound goes, I think the Lidl had more color and a more solid bottom end, while the HoJo had a warmth and sort of smokey quality that I liked, but was more vanilla overall than the Lidl.
Hope that helps.

That helped, thanks. Please, can you say the last sentence in other words, being not a native english speaker I don“t fully understand "more vanilla" in this context.

I guess that by 'vanilla,' I mean more bland, lacking in colorful overtones, more of a straightforward or neutral sound. (Hope that's of more help, but it's always difficult to put words to these sorts of things.)

Meinl Weston 2011 HoJo Gravity Series:
FA=front action
RA=rotary action
TA=top action
I'm not entirely sure about this, but it sure makes sense to me
