Hey guys, been a while since I posted a topic, but I recently made a couple of videos and I would like some critique on them. So please take a listen.

What is my sound in the videos like?
Does it sound good?
Things to improve on?
How loud am I playing(dynamic wise)

I like the way you nail your attacks in the top link. I don't recognize what you were playing and can only assume the notes were right. In any event it sounds like you hit them with authority.

You already know the consensus opinion here of the sound concept you're striving for, and I agree with that consensus. You would sound far, far better if you would open up and send in some slower, warmer air. But given that you seem to want that forced, cold sound, I guess you're doing it and that is some sort of "success". FWIW.

I was trying something in that first link: I played that sound with a firmer articulation then usual. Glad to know I did well on that.

And since it's a fanfare, I play fanfares/stand tunes with a bit of edge and some pretty darn harsh articulation. So that's my style when it comes that kind of stuff. Just wanted to let you know so you know what I was doing while playing and what I was tryin to accomplish.

I do want to be really good at my instrument. I'd like almost completely master it if I can. But ya.
At the moment I'm doing ok. I can have some good days/moments. But I want that all the time. It's a working process.

If you have an iPhone look up how to upload with an iPhone. It's really simple and it's what I do since the other way is very complicated and slow.

Thank You goodgigs You have shown me I don't have to worry about screwing up I know I never touch that note about two above that sounds pretty good for my playing ...to bad he was more worried about his production Than letting you practice a little bit before attempting that note! I see you were using your stealth tuba....I have one of those blue mikes and downloaded audacity but don't know what to do with it<s>I havent even figured out tuning yet!! I have a new korg but don't understand herzogs and which is my main tuning slide<s>I used to come on here just to look at horns and dream.. now that I have one I want to learn even at my advanced age<s>Thank You for helping.. It sounds like you really are blowing hard and front loading your attacks. You hit the note hard then fade to nothing. Perhaps you can instead relax your air (not so much pressure and so hard on the initial attack) and instead blow fully and more easily/relaxed through the notes. Think of filling the horn with lots of airflow but not pressure. Just sounds like you spank every note you play.

Hm, so not enough body. Got ya. I've been thinking about this week. I've been working on adding body to my sound, resonance in the other words. It's getting better, a lot. All about filling the horn up with air, then filling the room up with sound.

More critique is always welcomed.

For airflow, I like to think of water moving through a pipe. It can be small pipe, super pressurized and really spank a note or it can be larger pipe full of water with an even continuous flow from the start of the note to the finish of the breath. Think blowing continuously and easily through the backend of the note. Maybe try playing slow slurred eighth notes from a Bb down to an F slowing and with crescendo to try filling the horn.
