Hi, I have an old Rudolf Meinl #1 mouthpiece, dating from the mid 1970's. I have never seen anybody else using one (which means there are probably thousands). Does anyone know the specs? Can't see these listed anywhere today, but I understand that the #1 may have morphed into a certain Bruno Tilz model. I looked at a printed copy of a Tilz catalogue, but it is for the European mind and a little hard to decipher. Is anyone able to shed some light on these? Thank you.

I have one that came with a new Rudy 4/4 I got in HS in 1974. No idea why they included that one as it was not a good mouthpiece for that big of a horn (at least not for me). It never worked well in anything I ever tried it in over the years and so it never got used - until I found it in the back of a desk and plugged it into my 3/4 Lidl and it literally lit up the horn. A lot of mouthpieces worked well in the horn, but this thing is spectacular and since it never got used it is like brand new after being polished up. Lee Stofer identified it as a Joseph Tilz - not Bruno. I think they still offer it as a JT-1 - but I'm not positive.

Mine is a 33mm Helleberg style cup. It says "B. Tilz-NEA M1". The other side is stamped "Hirsbrunner". Great mouthpiece, and still my preference for most horns & situations.

According to my sources, Rudolf Meinl got some of his mouthpieces from Josef Tilz at one point, hence the JT-1. Josef Tilz was the brother of Bruno Tilz, who still supplies Rudolf Meinl today, as well as Hirsbrunner and Perantucci. Josef Tilz retired some time ago and therefore the mouthpieces are no longer available.
The Rudolf Meinl RM-1 or RM-1. (dot designates slightly larger throat) are prime choices for a Rudi 3/4 CC, as well as the RM-2 or RM-2., if one prefers a slightly smaller version. These are all Helleberg-style mouthpieces, but have the correct shank and bore for optimum intonation on the 3/4 Rudi.

Mine came with the horn in '74 shipped direct from Germany in a big wooden crate which still didn't prevent a crease in the bell.
My mouthpiece has a JT-1 stamp on it.

I have both the JT-1 and a 1. They were shipped with my HB2 in 1973.
The JT-1 and 1 are different mouthpieces.
I don't recall where I got the measurements so take them with a grain of salt:

I bought a RM-1 from Lee Stofer in 2002 and kept it for a couple of years. It had a cup that was conical rather than the belled funnel that I was expecting. It was pretty much straight from the rim to the throat.
