The Appalachian Symphony Orchestra performs works by Schubert, Williams and Brahms Sunday, Nov. 24, at Appalachian State University. Assistant Professor Chung Park conducts. The performance begins at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The orchestra will perform Schubert's "Symphony No. 7(8) in B Minor D. 759," also known as the "Unfinished" symphony. Written in 1822, the symphony was first performed in 1865, 47 years after Schubert's death.

Guest tuba player Christopher J. Blaha will join the symphony for Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Concerto for Bass Tuba and Orchestra." Blaha is an assistant professor in the Hayes School of Music.

The program concludes with Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture Op. 80." Brahms wrote the overture to thank Breslau University, which awarded him an honorary doctorate. The piece incorporates student drinking songs he heard in a local tavern.
