Hello again, just wanted some general reviews and comments on the PT 88 and +. One question though is the + worth the money.

It's a big boy mouthpiece no doubt about it.
And I played on a PT-86 before, and the tone I could produce on it was fat as hell.
I assume the 88 is just as good, maybe even better.

As in its not as easy to make sound good as other mouthpieces are.
Also it doesn't suit all face shapes. It might or might not fit you. Just gotta play with t and see how it works for you.

I love my PT-88. I just got one about two months ago and it sounds amazing on all of my Martin tubas and Sousa. It works well with my Miraphone 1291 BBb. I get a great tone on it and had some excellent compliments a few weeks ago on the little solo in Fantasy on a Theme by Sousa at our Veteran's Concert. Notes high and low seem to come easily with this mouthpiece. I have larger lips, but not crazy large... So I love larger mouthpieces. I was playing a Conn Helleberg for about 10 years. I tried a lot of other mouthpieces along the way and the PT-88 is the first one that made me want to change.

It's definitely a mouthpiece made for larger horns, though I've heard of a few hardy types who use it on Eb.

Hi i played on a PT 88+ on BBb tuba , great m/p but really big , i also played on it on EEb tuba , huge sound but only drawback was that i had to be n really good practise, or the lips tiered early, was ready for interval on a concert lol

I played on a pt 88 for a few years at the urging of my teacher at the time. As far as "feel" goes, it never really blew my skirt up, but it did give me the benefit of having a bigger sound in the low range. The notes down around low F seemed easier to center than on a smaller mouthpiece, and I was told I got a more characteristic tuba sound with it. Playing solo/high range stuff on it produced a sort of "woofy" sound. It isn't a do everything piece, but it is pretty good for orchestral and band literature, if it suits your playing.

Possibly the closest I could get to a technical and objective review would be it provides more fundamental, with less overtone. Think more bass and low midrange, and less treble.

As others have said, it depends on your facial structure and your playing habits (strengths and weaknesses) if this will work for you.
