Roots guy Taj Mahal respected tuba way back when by hiring HoJo's band Gravity. At least two icons that I know of were here: Bob Stewart and Dave Bargeron.

This album should be in every tuba player's collection. No debate is possible! :D

Actually as Howard Johnson Gravity was joining up with Taj, Dave Bargeron had just join Blood, Sweat and Tears so Dave had to miss out on that.So Gravity is just Howard, Bob Stewart, Earl McIntyre and Joe Daly. Here's a link to an interview with Howard and he explains how Dave miss out on the Taj band.

My college tuba section (Tuskegee) used to play that song as a fanfare at the end of games if the team won. Name changed to "Go back home". We were banned from playing it because,....let's just say...the crowd changed the lyrics and it was not something the President of the school wanted his crowd singing.
