Can someone reccomend which version of the Strauss Concerto No.1 Eb that I should get....I have been wanting it for a while, but so far have only found "french horn" parts, but imagine it must be transcribed for tuba somewhere. Thanks

Hi Jay! Just buy the horn version and learn to read it down a 5th. I played it on my senior recital back in ****. My teacher made me transpose it on sight. It's tough at first, but worth the effort in the long run.

awww.Bill ....I knew someone was going to say that.....and it had to be someone I know too......but that takes work.... LOL I do have the F horn part and have hacked my way through it some, maybe I'll revisit it and see how it goes again. Thanks

the TUBA Press had a manuscript version of all the Mozart concerti and the Strauss and several other baroque and classical transcriptions back in the 80"s. all original keys so accompaniments work. good stuff for around $12.oo back then...

an easy way to transpose the part is to add 1 flat to the key signature and read it up a tone in bass clef

imho, these horn concerti are vastly superior,even on f tuba, to 80% of the modern garbage a lot of people play. great music,even on the wrong horn, is worthwhile and may be the only exposure alot of audiences ever get to Mozart or Strauss. and lets face it, the only people who go to tuba recitals are other tuba nerds or music apprec. students who have waited til the last minute to get in their required performances. most tubists in the audience would stay to listen just for curiosity...the oboe thing is interesting,though...

The Strauss Concerto No..1 isn't bad either--the one in C minor, Op. 8 by Franz (not Richard) Strauss.
