Wearing sneakers has been one of the signature gags of Canadian Brass. I don't know if they always wear white or if the color changes, but I recall seeing them in sneakers most of the time.

Just finished watching the whole program. Really great playing and arrangements, Dallenbach also produces a signature sound for C.B.. This is good entertainment.

Oooookay . . . I guess I'll bite. What's the horn Chuck is using? It looks like a Yamamaha 621, but it has a Canadian Brass logo on the bell. On their Web site, the suggestion is that it's a Conn 2J, but that's no 2J I've ever seen.

Who knows?

Agree that it looks more like a CC 621 than anything else, but he has been known to experiment with different smaller tubas (including some carbon fiber bell horns.)
Going way back in the archives: ww.chisham.com/tips/bbs/mar2001/messages/48501.html and there are many other TubeNet postings on the subject...

When I first became aware of the CB (back in the late 70's/early 80's), Chuck was using the 621 prototype. Over the years, he has experimented with various other horns, but he has come back to the 621 again, in recent years. I guess he is also using 2J.

It's not a 2J Conn that he's been seen with over the last year or so. It is a "frankentuba," quite literally. Mostly York parts with a Yamaha 822 valve section, carbon fiber bell, and in CC. Fits in a Yamaha 822 case. This is the tuba that was apparently such a big secret when CB went to Conn-Selmer instruments from Yamaha. Conn didn't have an acceptable instrument, so Chuck had that one built so that it could end up being copied by Conn. I have absolutely no idea if it is going to morph into a production model or not, but the design can't be that big of a secret if Chuck Daellenbach is playing it in public and is happy to talk to and show the tuba to anyone interested.

I've worked with Chuck several times and have seen them in concert may times over the years. I don't think I saw the same tuba twice. He has played many, many different instruments over the years and generally travels with whatever he has on hand at the moment isn't terribly beat up from being on the road and fits into a small case. Surprisingly he typically flies with a Yamaha case, "as is" and just takes his chances.
