If you find a four-valved Conn euph with an upright bell... it's a fairly simple matter to change the bell and bell stack to accommodate a detachable front-facing bell. or... the new front-facing bell could be mounted solid if you don't want the detachable feature.

It's just a matter of mixing and matching the bells and stacks from one of the other Conn lines. I'm thinking specifically of the fixed bell on the Conn 14i. There are scads of these horns around that a bell could be salvaged from.

My daughter, a college senior trombonist, doubles on a Conn 24i which has two bells and the main tuning slide trigger. Some of the Connstellation models were equipped with the European-sized euphonium mouthpiece receiver, smaller than bass trombone but larger than standard small tenor trombone shank. I borrowed it from her to play a gig last summer, actually subbing for her, and I found the main tuning slide trigger not needed much, but it was handy when needed. The short-action Connstellation valves need to be well-aligned for the horn to play well, but I consider this horn to play quite well.

Humes & Berg does still make the "straight" mute for bell-front, or recording euphonium, and I have a new one in stock that has had the corks sanded to fit a Conn bell. I do not know of a practice mute made for these instruments, but I suppose it could be done.

Funny aside, a friend who works at a music store said they got a call from a guy in Austria who wanted 12 of the front action King baritones shipped to them. Of course he laughed when I knew the model number.
