The Association of Concert Bands will have its National Convention in March. One of the activities is a Convention Band which will be formed from musicians in attendance. https://sites.google.com/site/acb2014co ... ntion-band

Question: has anyone here participated in the Convention Band in previous years? I understand that it's a new band each year, but is past experience any guide as to whether this will be a worthwhile experience?

Thanks,
Hup

My wife and I belong to The Association of Concert Bands and have been to conventions 2009, 2010, and 1011. We haven't been for the last couple of years because they have been farther away than I care to travel with a tuba.

Basically... the ACB convention band is made up of whoever shows up. There are some 'regulars' who make every convention but for the most part... the band is new each year. There will be several days of rehearsals, seminars, and workshops followed by a 'gala' concert at the end of the week.

It's a good group. We would have gone the last couple of years but have opted to go to the 'Windjammers' conventions instead.

My band, the Montgomery County Concert Band http://www.montcoband.org/will be performing at the convention. It will be my first time at this event and I'll try to post some thoughts and observations ( maybe some pics and audio as well) afterwards. :tuba:
Happy New Year to Everyone.
