John Swain recently passed away. A real nice guy and a tuba player of course. He taught at Cal State L.A. for many years.

I had heard that the guy playing tuba in Evansville, IL - Joe Agnew - was working on one, but have not seen anything.
Is anyone aware of anything else?
Not that is authoritative. The problem is that York's records are lost and there is nothing really known about their serial numbers, except by trying to fill in the blanks from the histories of specific instruments.
Remember that the York factory was sold to Carl Fischer in 1941, and likely most of the York management left at that time. I believe that is when Bill Johnson, who ran York at the time, retired. Carl Fischer made no attempt to keep historical information about York, and can't (or won't) even tell you about their business practices in the 50's when they were in control.
