Hi Everyone,

Sarah Willis (of the berlin phil) finally caught up with Roger Bobo in person towards the end of last year, to record an interview.

Result is now up on YouTube - hope you find it interesting.

Cheers

Tim

An interesting interview with an iconic figure. Why has he stopped playing? Dexterity? Chops? Roger's size certainly attracts attention. He was the only high school camper to swim the lake at Interlochen in 1956. Think about the difference. Interesting discussion about tuba virtuosos. He was unique in 1956. Nobody his age or even close was even close. He was and always will be my tuba hero. Imagine daily astonishment at what he could do as a teenager. There were other journeyman players, in the positive sense of that term, but none in the same ball park with Roger.

One funny bit where Sarah starts making fun of the Fountains of Rome excerpt, (seriously denigrating tubists for ever having to practice it) and Roger steps right up and says something like "But it must be practiced!"

There is also a link from the Bobo interview to one that Sarah did with Carol Jantsch.
Very interesting!

Pardon my ignorance, but can someone tell me what Sarah's opening theme music is?
I think it would be fun on tuba.
