In my opinion, he nailed it! His performance is destined to be the definitive performance, for all time.

I guess it says something about my patience lately that I finished listening to the tuba solo before I exited. Yay me!

My suggestion is for music schools around the world to put a 4 year minimum block on their composition programs. Blech..

Nope.

But I've got your back, Bloke. Here's what you might be thinking of:

Makes me want to just go ahead and shoot myself, or at least give them money, to get it over with. I think the theory is that they torture the money out of us. Fortunately my TV has a power button.

I love how Slatkin tries his damnedest to sell that piece of **** to the audience. He did the best he could with what he had to work with.

I heard the "wind" part, but seem to have missed the "song" part.

A few gimmicks, but overall not bad. A good concept. Do we really want the newest composers imitating Haydn imitating Mozart imitating Haydn??

Hey, it takes a well trained tuba player to perform the "Cyborg Blow"

Well, if that work is a "piece of ****", then apparently I like listening to pieces of ****. God forbid Slatkin should try and breathe a little more life into the orchestral repertoire.

FWIW Dennis is a beast. We went to school together and even when he was a freshman I knew he would wind up in a major symphony. He always had THAT sound.

I'm listening to the piece and it's not bad, doesn't sound any different than movie music to me and not that far our.

Don't be afraid to expand your horizons people, lots of orchestras (to include here in Atlanta) are playing stuff that is far more "out there" than this. Not that it means you have to like it, but try something new.

Didn't hurt to have teachers like: Don Harry, Mike Roylance, Chester Schmitz & Harry Shapiro either! :tuba:
