Assume you want to add length to a horn to bring it down to modern pitch.
Effectively it's a high-to-low pitch conversion but you're starting with a high pitch body; the rest is up to you.

You're installing new leadpipe, valves, and main slide.
The horn is small (and in Eb actually) - the valves are the same bore as the 1st branch - ie. the main slide is straight bore.

Where, instinctively do you want to add the length?

I'm thinking, make the tapered leadpipe as long as practically possible and minimise any straight sections.
I also can't see any difference in having straight bore tubing before or after valves.

Any thoughts welcomed!

I'm actually giving minor thought to an out of the box idea:
What if the leadpipe entered the valves at the bottom?!?

That would allow an easy, smooth, longish leadpipe to take up the extra length, and I can easily route from 1st valve to 1st branch.

Nuts?

The leadpipe enters from the bottom on the Yamaha 103 also.
