Nirschl Leadpipe vs Yorkbrunner Leadpipe

Hello all,

Could anyone tell me how different the orientation of the leadpipe is on a Yorkbrunner versus that of a Nirschl?

I am looking to purchase a large York style tuba and I find the leadpipe on my colleague's Nirschl to be at an angle that makes the tuba very uncomfortable to hold for me. Is the leadpipe on a Yorkbrunner closer to that of most other tubas? What I mean by this is: is the leadpipe curved around the bell more than the Nirschl, where the lead pipe is at something like a 45 degree angle?

Also how does it compare to the angle of the leadpipe on something like an HB-21, which is what I am currently playing on.

Thanks!

Since they are both "identical" to The York, they should be the same. A Yorkbrunner I saw recently was of the 45 degree-ish angle.

Hey, so your muffin top gets in the was, doesn't it? Mine does and it's itty bitty. Get a tuba rest/stand and go from there. The York model Nirschl is a big mamma to hold simply on a chair and if you drop it, that's expensive.

I thought a leadpipe could be rebent to almost whatever shape you want? You can lower it, raise it, lift it off the bell, so I am sure it can bent to come around the bell a little more. Of course that would depend on the talent of repair tech, right?

I own the Nirschl and my teacher owns a Yorkbrunner, and I can confirm the Hirsbrunner mouthpipe is about 35~40 degrees while the Nirschl is 45.

By the way, you get used to almost anything. Today I love my tuba's ergonomics but it was one of the reasons I thought why not to buy it back in the time.
