Reviving Golden Crest Records

Post by Steve Marcus »

As many TubeNetters know, the Golden Crest catalog, which has been for all intents and purposes inaccessible for many years, contains many classic recordings by legendary brass players. In particular, such lauded tubists and euphoniumists as Bill Bell, Harvey Phillips, Gary Buttery, R. Winston Morris/Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, Steve Seward, Leonard Falcone, and many others made recordings for Golden Crest. Much of the repertoire is extremely interesting and of great value for pedagogical and purely musical purposes.

The following appeared on OrchestraList:
As many of you know, one of my projects has been to help preserve the legacy of Clark Galehouse and Golden Crest Records. As part of that, the current owner (John Broven - son-in-law of Clark Galehouse) has placed the Golden Crest Record catalog on the Internet for the first time.

Golden Crest records was on the cutting edge of educational and classical recordings for more than two decades. Particularly on the educational side, John has been willing to allow me and others to transfer LPs for publishing on YouTube and, in some cases, purchase the rights to use digital transfers of the masters (when the masters exist).

John has possession of all back stock of LPs and a good portion of these recordings can be purchased in pristine unopened condition.
