Does anyone have any experience with the Tempest Agility Winds CC, BBb or 3/4 BBb tubas?
Lee Hipp has endorsed them and recorded demos.

I more interested in hearing from people who have played or own one of these tubas.
I expect that these revisions made by Jin Bao specifically for this branding.

From Lee Hipp's bio, he play tests all of them. I suspect that means you won't get a dog if you order one without trying it first.

Tempest Agility sounds like the name of a pole dancer.

It's one of the names Craig Ferguson danced under.

A friend of mine plays the 210 as a Shiller and it plays the same as the 4/4 Tempest. I would do some shopping as all of the retailers have different price points for the same horn. Wessex even has it in 5 valves.

I tried the horns yesterday. I liked them. Trust would be an important issue, here.

What does he say is the rationale for paying his prices, in view of the far lower prices these same instruments can be had for from MackBrass or Wessex?

I tried their 3/4 BBb tuba. Didn't like it for a few reasons.

1. IT'S A 3/4! The Eb tuba I owned at the time dwarfed it quite a bit in size and sound. It sounded like it looked, small.

2. The paddles on the horn felt very heavy compared to a Miraphone or a Melton. Granted it's cheaper than those horns, but I've played cheaper horns with better action paddles.

3. The low register was meh. The 4th valve response was good but the 1+2 low G just didn't sit right with me.

The horn in question is still played by a amazing high school tuba player known as Ethyn Evans. He can make the horn sing but he's played it for far longer than I have. Maybe I'm just too used to playing 5/4 and 6/4 tubas these days.

I looked all over their website and could not find any mention of where they are made. The kept referring to them manufacturing their instruments. If they really are JinBao then they are clearly trying to deceive their customers.

I bought one of their 3/4 marching tubas a while back. Around 2-3k ish. A few weeks later, I look, and the exact same tuba is being sold by Schiller for half the price.
I guess I can only blame me though.

Yeah, I realize my post was too complicated.

In a nutshell, the same instruments can be bought for a much lower price.

Their Jr, Intermediate, Full Size and CC offerings are the same as Mack Brass only 1k+ more!!

So unless they are having a 40% off "sale"...
