One of my community bands is performing Vaughan Williams Folk Song Suite (© 1924 Boosey & Hawkes). The tuba part I have is almost unreadable due to faintness and scribble marks. Does anyone have a pdf of a clear copy or know where I can order only the tuba part? I will shred the pdf copy when we have have finished.

You can order a copy of the part from any Hal Leonard print music dealer. Just tell them that you need only the tuba part to item number 48006173.

I thought that IMSLP would surely have this work on file for download, but it is---for some unknown reason---not in public domain. My minimal understanding of public domain in the US is that works prior to 1927[?] are available, but the VW piece is 1924. Anyone know why? Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks.

You're a just a few years off. Works first published before 1923 are generally in the public domain. Works first published in 1923 and after can still be under copyright protection in the US depending on many factors.
