I've never had the chance to play one of these. What horn would you compare one of these to for size?

they aren't too common in the US. The general trend of Rudy sizes should be in force, based on what I saw listed "For Sale" earlier.

A Rudolf Meinl 4/4 is a bit larger than a Mirafone 186, and not too much different in size from a Meinl-Weston model 25 BBb. However, the strength, efficiency and beauty of sound (as well as intonation) put them in a class by themselves. No one builds better tubas than Rudolf Meinl, Jr. I say that objectively as a repairman that works on a lot of horns, not just because of a personal friendship.

I play a Rudy 4/4 BBb, and I like it a lot!
I have had a Melton 2145CC before, for lighter (pop tunes) band repertoire, but moved to the Rudi because I had to work too hard to support the band (50 people).

Compared to my Willson 3100 (big 5/4) the sound is maybe a hair less powerfull, but the tone color is much more beautiful.
It's very hard to overblow the Rudi, and the quality of the sound remains in all registers.
