i have played a few and they've had stuffy low ranges

I owned one in the past and was VERY happy to get rid of it.
Below average design and workmanship was an issue, not to mention I grew to dislike the sound of it. Intonation was also a problem.

Great Horn

I had Kalison DS CC for 5 years and loved it. It played well in tune and had a great sound. It was very free playing and had a big, huge low register. I used it in every aspect of playing.
These horns can be sensitive to mouthpieces and vary from horn to horn, there are some great examples of these horns and a some bad ones. You need to play it before you buy.
If you find a good one, you won't regret it.
Don't let a few peoples negative comments discourage you from getting a horn you like.

Don't let what others say about a horn influence you. What matters is how a horn plays to YOU. A horn that is "free blowing" to one person may not "center" to another. Likewise that "dark" horn may have no "core" or "focus" to another, and that horn that "holds up to FFF" may not be as "responsive". FWIW a number of years ago I tried a Kalison DS and thought it was a pretty decent horn. Try the specific one you want to buy, just because they come from ther same place does not mean they are identical. That would be like saying all redheaded Irish women have bad tempers.

I play on a KALISON 2001 CC Tuba and LOVE IT!!!!!
