Joe, I can't find the previous thread...this is in what key??? I should be able to figure it out, but the current distractions aren't helping me concentrate.

Joe... this is pretty typical with many of the 'new' instruments available today. .... all of that work and you still consider this horn a 'descent buy'?

Now that the King piston CC tuba is done, I did drop my cimbasso off today at my repairman to have your 'mod's' done to my horn.....the 'triangle' brace sounds interesting...I'll be curious how you like it...

Wessex are already adding a brace at the point 'Bloke' mentions to our next batch of cimbasso.

We are getting very positive feedback from all that try the cimbasso - more than one professional commenting the Wessex is the best cimbasso he has ever played.

How does the bell reacts if you play with the bell turned downwards instead of straight up, turned down about 120 degrees or something like some cimassonista does. It also has the advantage that the bell comes more in line with the other (slide)trombones in the section that way.

The bell section has a slot where you can 'lock it' into place with the body section.

Hmm, wouldn't it be better to have the possibility to use it at your own preferred angle? Like what is possible with other trombones?

A normal trombone connection would not be rigid enough for the weight of bell I would think

Our cimbasso has a trombone style connection which works very well. I.e. the bent part is not movable but the coupling is trombone style. Put the instrument together in the angle you prefer and fasten the lock nut. The rigidity has to be in the bent part, I think, which Bloke pointed out in the pic?

Mmm, when I play trombone it is almost a must to be able to adjust the bell to slide angle even if some prefer the exact 90 deg angle between bell and slide. Otoh, when playing tuba I just put it in my lap and play. As I see the cimbasso as a member of the trombone section I think it is nice to have the sound come from approx the same angle as the rest of the trombones, for the best blend, even if they do not play with bells up. Otherwise it might react as a laser below the trombones. Otoh, the cimbasso with the bell up is absolutely great as the lowest trombone part when all trombones play the same style. Very very nice indeed.
So at least for me I would prefer to have the option to use the valved contrabass trombone with the bell in other angles than only up in the air. It is of course always possible to make a personal modification, especially as the jinbaoso seems to be so good to play.
Oh, did I say that the sound of a trombone section where a cimbasso plays the lowest part is great

If you want to experiment with how the bell rim reacts--lift your left shoulder up (like if you had football shoulder pads in) so it touches the bell while playing the instrument--very interesting....

A nice choice of instrument for this type of music-- the cimbasso revolution/evolution continues....

I find the cimbasso shape to be quite funny. They're enormous. The cases are huge. It seems to me that they *should* be wrapped more similarly to an American bell front baritone than the L shaped monstrosity that they are. They'd be easier to carry around, but then they'd also look like little tubas. If they looked like little tubas, or even worse, if they looked like little bell front tubas, they'd be much less popular.

Just ordered my bag...anything will be better than 'case-zilla'....
