Done by Madison Rising at the Datona 500 - this version of the Star Spangled Banner is very strange.

The Army guy at 1:00 in the video has a look on his face like "What the @$!% is this &#!$???" And if that's not what he was thinking, then I was also wondering, "What the @$!% is this &#!$???"

At the risk of sounding intolerant, I applaud Colonels West and Devine for standing at attention and not showing what they were thinking at the rendition of the National Anthem. I've had to stand at attention and render honors at some pretty awful performances. That was one that ranks up there.

My apologies to Colonel West for referring him as "the Army guy."

Not really going to comment a whole lot on this one, but it's worth pointing out that this was actually truncated from the following:

I think you could make a solid argument about the full song. The attempted "compromise" doesn't really fare so well...

For better or worse there is no official version of our national anthem. Jimi Hendricks also had a quite popular rendition of the SSB back in the day. I guess the only criteria that I have for evaluation a performance of the SSB is that it is presented with respect. This rendition is not my cup of tea but I think it was done with respect - just in a musical genre that I don't especially care for. Phil

Jimi Hendrix's version was a protest song. Remember, it was 1969. Jimi was an Army Airborne vet, too.
After seeing the rendition by "America's Most Patriotic Rock Band", these guys are just like Ted Nugent: 'all hat and no cattle'.

Not my style either, but it did sound prepared, rather than improvised. As a football fan, I hear versions of the anthem virtually every week that are entirely self-indulgent, unrehearsed and disrespectful. I wouldn't put this one in that category.
