I am looking to build a tuba stand and a euphonium stand like I see at the conventions- A flat board that is covered with a carpet/fabric. This is for the type that sit on the bell and slide into a lip.
For those of you that have done this, any tips? I started one with a friend today. How much of the bell sits under the lip, and how much space is there in terms of the height of the gap that the bell is supposed to slide into? Do you put fabric/carpet on the underside of the lip too? My friend used a router and rounded out the lip, I just want to make sure I do it correctly. How big of a base do you make in regard to the diameter of the bell?
Any advice is appreciated!

If you think it's too much trouble to make one, you can actually buy these sorts of stands directly from Baltimore Brass. They call them "pallet" stands. They have them for tuba and euphonium. They are the same ones you see at all of the conventions and in the shops.

It sounds like the ROK stand you're talking about.

Thanks for the link- I had seen them at Just for Brass (a picture) and was using that for my point of reference. Anyone have a picture of the Wood Pallets that Baltimore Brass sell? My friend was eager to help me make these, although I think by the time I finish it will be much cheaper to have bought a few!
For those that use them- how much space is there between the board that the instrument sits on and the wooden lip that the bell slides under? Is the fabric/carpeting on the underside of the the wooden lip?
I think my first one might be a prototype. I would rather get it right the first time especially since I have some nice horns that I don't want to risk scratching or damaging.

I don't own one of these kinds of stands, but can tell you they look identical to the photo posted of the ROK stand. I'm not sure if Baltimore Brass makes their own or is reselling the same thing Just For Brass has, but either way they appear to be the same product.
