I want to share this fine piece of music with my friends on Tubenet. It came to me from the Jonathan Dorn Tuba Fan Page. It features the bass trombone and tuba. It is entitled, "Bastasia".

Mike:

Thanks for the referral. I may buy a copy, scare up a bunch of trombonists and give it a go.

Anybody know which F tuba Hendrik Jan Renes is playing?
Looks like a Hirsbrunner HBS 288 but I can't be sure. It has
such a wonderful sound........especially in the higher range :P

Randy, thanks for posting this beautiful performance of great music played by some well-known virtuoso musicians. I enjoyed it and have sent the link to some local trombonists who will appreciate it.

Beautiful as this performance is, however, I'm wondering if Verdi could have been correct. IMHO, the conical tuba and the cylindrical trombones don't quite provide an optimal blend. ("Optimal blend", of course, is subject to individual tastes.) I think it would be interesting to hear this group with the tuba replaced by a contrabass trombone or cimbasso.
