Does anyone have information on Henri Gentrl tubas? The request for information just came to me and I have not seen the horn yet nor do I have any details. Just curious about the name at this point. It doesn't appear in my edition of Langwells.

The spelling of the last name is a bit suspicious. Googling it gives no returns.

Today Facebook had something about Google giving 100.000 answers, while a librarian will give the right answer. Yet Google may give an idea about likelyhood.

I cannot translitterate from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet, so there I have to ask. But when translitterated I can get at least some information from Russian and Bulgarian instrument engravings. Which maker made this instrument for which market?
Point of this being, that requests like the one in the OP should always be followed by a readable photo of the engraving. Only people knowing the various continental European alphabets have a chance giving a fair reading of the engravings from these countries. At least in the western European languages the sequence of -trl- is very unlikely.

Yeah, the obvious variation would be Henri Gentil. You get a few hits with that, the contemporary ones you can throw out, and the rest seem to refer to someone who was somehow in the field of music, but I can't see that he was an instrument maker. It's all in French and most of it is in photocopied documents that are not possible to search. There are also several people with names of the form X-Henri Gentil.

I tried a significant variety of combinations on the 'Gentr' with character substitutions and came up empty.

Interesting mystery.

I can read a few of the words on that Russian engraving -- which I take it is not supposed to have anything to do with Henri whoever. Otherwise, I'd have to find my Russian dictionary somewhere around here since it's been way too long away from that language for me.

The name was in the text of an email. No image of the engraving. I've asked for an image of the engraving.
