I just got a truly beautiful tuba gig bag from Luscombe Violins, so I'll be storing my very unwieldy (and enormously heavy) two-part hard case. Any suggestions on how to keep it safe and ready to use for those times when I need the extra protection?

rule # 1: keep it dry. Nothing will ruin a case like moisture. Either find some silica gel packets, or fill a sock with rice, or get some of that closet-dry stuff from the grocery store, but put something in there that will absorb moisture.

If space is a premium, you might also stash a hefty bag full of out-of-season clothes inside. Do keep them in some sort of bag, though, so you can yank the whole thing out quickly to use the tuba.

whats kind of case is it? If its platic...then dry dry dry....metal...dry dry dry.........Wood with some vinyl type covering..... watch how dry you make it since wood does require moisture.....the trick is keeping it constant otherwise it can become very brittle and will crack easily.

Why not invest in a couple of boxes of baking soda and stash one in each case? If it works to keep the cat's litter box and your refrigerator (don't confuse the two!) fresh, it might help keep a case interior smelling nice.
