hmm...
I thought Laskey 30H was a version of the normal Conn Helleberg mouthpiece...
The Laskey 30G feels so much smaller if you compare it to Shilke Helleberg II? Am I wrong?

I haven't ever even stood close to either of the mouthpieces, but according dimensions I see online, Laskey 30H is 32.89 mm, cup internal diameter, and Schilke Helleberg II is 32.76 mm. So it would appear that the Laskey is 0.13 mm larger - but don't take that seriously, since the way different people measure mouthpieces will result in much larger differences. "Reasonably similar size" would be more realistic.simonfrisk.tuba wrote:I thought Laskey 30H was a version of the normal Conn Helleberg mouthpiece...

I'm too lazy to hunt down Conn's internal diameter, but general impression seems to be that it's larger than 30H or HII. And there are probably other differences. One description I see of the Helleberg II mentions a tighter throat. Laskey makes a smaller "28" version, too.
There's more to be found in old posts here, maybe some from people who've even played one or more of these mouthpieces. If you search, try google rather than the site's internal search function - on the down side, you'll get the people who put lists of their equipment in every post, but overall google search is more usable.

I'll repeat the question that others have already asked: Why would you want a PT version? Can't imagine a good reason to think it would be better.
As alluded to, the Schilke Helleberg II and Laskey 30H are close siblings cut from the same cloth.
In addition to the above, the Conn Helleberg is another 'gold standard' works for everyone middle of the road general purpose funnel shaped mouthpiece.
Of PT mouthpieces the most 'middle of the road' funnel shaped mouthpiece is probably the PT44. It's certainly the most commonly recommended for that niche.
The reason I would question the desire for a PT version is because one of the hallmarks of a Helleberg style mouthpiece is a relatively flat sharp rim. One of the hallmarks of the PT line is an overly rounded cushion rim. There's certainly room for compromise and crossover.. but I feel that the PT line is often attempting to address issues by coming from the opposite side of the equation. From that vantage point your question is just a little 'weird'.

Thank goodness there are still weird questions left in the world.joh_tuba wrote: The reason I would question the desire for a PT version is because one of the hallmarks of a Helleberg style mouthpiece is a relatively flat sharp rim. I am not familiar with the Laskey 30H and Schilke Helleberg II, but for years I'd say one of Conn's most popular Helleberg mouthpieces was the Conn 2, which is an ordinary cushion rim. Does anyone know why some people prefer sharp rims and some hate them, like what's the science behind this? I personally am not usually averse to a sharp rim, but lately I will allow that my more rounded Marcinkiewicz H3 is a lot more comfortable than my Kellyberg, maybe due to facial hair.
As for the PT thing ... if people are really interested in the answer, as in "I might learn something here", then fine, but it's coming across more like "tell us why we should answer this stupid question." I'm happy to learn more about PT mouthpieces, even if I've never seriously considered buying one.

Re: Is there a perantucci model of helleberg II?
I have 2 Laskey mouthpieces, the 30C and the 30H. I used the 30H for several years on my Holton and my Nirschl tubas. I think the closest Perantucci to the 30H is the PT 48. Seven years ago I went with Bob Tucci to the factory in Frankfort where the make the mouthpieces. He was dong a run of PT 65S mp and was there to do the quality control on the run. As far as I know, he goes there frequently to check the runs. The same day I was there, they were doing a run of Bach trumpet mouthpieces, one a minute for 12 hours. I did not see a representative from Bach there. By the way, the computer controlled machine took 4 minutes to do the tuba mouthpiece. I of course had to buy one from that run. Very nice mp, but I use a straight 65 on my F tuba.
