Hello all,
I have been asked and am unable to perform a run of the Flying Dutchman, but have offered to help staff the tubist position for that orchetra. It is an unpaid gig. Here are the details:
Link to Orchestra's Event
UN Symphony Orchestra
Tuesday, 6 May: 7:00 pm
Wednesday, 7 May: 7:00 pm
Thursday, 8 May: 7:00 pm
Friday, 9 May: 7:30 pm
Saturday, 10 May: 7:30 pm
Sunday, 11 May: 7:00 pm
Washington Irving High School Auditorium
40 Irving Place, New York
The rehearsals for the event are April 22, 23, 29, 30, May 2 @ 7PM.
You can PM or email me, and I will forward that on to the person who contacted me about this.
Thanks!

Unpaid and gig don't belong in the same sentence. Not to say it couldn't be fun maybe? But no, it's definitely not a gig.

Which one?
I've always used "gig" for paying music job, perhaps this is wrong? If there was something I wasn't getting paid for I'd always say, "I have a band concert" or some such, but wouldn't say I have a "gig" when I actually had an unpaid performance of some kind.
And why are you taking a quote of mine from another thread and pasting it into this one? That's something usually reserved for trolling or politicians or both!
According to the Urban Dictionary:
gig
A live performance, either musical, theatrical, or physical.
The band has a gig tommorow night.
So according to the Urban Dictionary I am technically wrong but I am not worried about it very much.
Sorry to the OP for the big derail I am technically wrong. (according to one online source)

Derailments = free bumps. I appreciate that. I have had one person who has interest in helping out this ensemble.
I meant the slang version of gig as an event, per the urban dictionary... The key word was unpaid. I do not know the ensemble, but I imagine it would be fun, if you have the time. I simply do not, with 2 kids, and my wife working some evenings.

Blah blah money whatever... seriously, how many of us here actually turn down things because it doesn't pay?
If I could commit to the full run, I'd do it in a second (well, and if I had a proper tuba, too!).

To play, or not to play, for free - that's a question that could feed its own thread for a while. Yes, no, and various shades of maybe, different answer for everyone. Only need one tuba player for this gig, though. I bet your Rudely would serve fine.

When it's repaired, yes. Until then, it's a little too funky for public.
